CAVAL (an academic library consortium running Rapido) and Trove (a public library consortium running ReShare) wanted to exchange requests between them using ISO 18626. A new open-source technology called CrossLink was built with sponsorship from an IMLS grant, IDS Logic, and IndexData. This presentation will cover the implementation of CrossLink, how interoperability between the two networks was achieved, the lessons we learned along the way, and what remains to be done to achieve full interoperability. Many of these lessons will be incorporated into the fourth version of the interlibrary loan messaging standard (tentatively scheduled for 2027), along with proposals/work-items for new standards, including a national open directory system.
